Building communities that support and accelerate agricultural climate adaptation and mitigation.

The Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Fellowship curriculum provides farmers, foresters, and advisors with the information they need to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change. We also work to bring climate change into advisors’ outreach programs, and support them to talk about climate change with peers and colleagues. The programs are designed to increase knowledge and empower broad adoption of climate adaptation and mitigation practices in the Northeastern and Midwestern United States.

Peer networks are an important component of farmer transitions to more sustainable farming systems. Case studies and other research has shown that farmers learn from not only their own experiences, but the experiences of others in their networks. These shared experiences lead to knowledge that can affect management changes.

The Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Fellowship provides a framework for integrating climate science and land manager knowledge. This leads to climate science outreach and education materials and tools specifically suited to the needs of a diverse range of agricultural producers, from dairy farmers to agroforesters.

By facilitating this program, we hope to raise the level of conversation about climate change within land manager communities, and encourage the broader adoption of climate adaptation and mitigation practices.
